In a Clutch | Bags

Clutches have been trendy for years, though the concept of one does seem totally impractical -- a bag with no handles or straps certainly isn't the easiest way to lug around spare change and five brands of lip balm. Nevertheless, there's something about the way they're held that makes them so appealing -- cool and casual, and the slouchier and less structured, the better:

Alchimia Gold Rush Clutch $328 -- 7"x11.5" Leather, cotton lining, made in Italy, includes 21" removable strap.

Claire Vivier Oversize Clutch in Leopard Hair $290 -- 17"x11.5" Haircalf, cotton lining, made in Los Angeles, also functions as a laptop case; this is the oversized version of the same clutch carried by Sarah at A House in the Hills, above left.

Marni 'Muppet' Bicolor Foldover Frame Clutch $2,010 -- 14 1/4"x15", a surprise pop of orange leather lining the inside of this clutch.

Rebecca Minkoff Hawaiian Print Pouch $75 $52 -- 7.5"x9.5" Faux printed leather, the smallest of these clutches, but perfect for a gym or yoga run.

Baggu Clutch in Molasses $54 -- 12 1/4"x7 3/4" Leather, made in the USA, comes in a bright canary yellow as well.

Miu Miu Biker Clutch $1,100 -- 13.8"x8.7" Matelassé nappa leather, nappa leather lining (in other words, super soft leather), moto-chic.
